Myth #1 – Physical therapy is going to hurt.
“No pain, no gain” is not my motto in most situations. With injury, in most cases, I would want to do as much as we possibly can with as little pain as possible. There are some diagnoses that require a little more discomfort with exercise and/or manual techniques in order to reach your desired goal, but I always try to avoid high levels of pain. To give you peace of mind I always try to explain what you can expect with each treatment performed in the clinic and what it will look like at home.
Myth #2 – My insurance doesn’t pay for physical therapy.
Advance Physical Therapy is in network with all major insurance companies as well as many that are less common. We contract with workers compensation companies, the Veteran’s Choice Program (VA), and are also a provider for TRICARE, MEDICARE, and pediatric MEDICADE. We’ve got you covered! Beyond insurance coverage we also offer flexible payment plans and discounts for the uninsured.
Myth #3 – If I need surgery, physical therapy is a waste of my time.
Not necessarily. Research has shown that in many cases preoperative physical therapy can help you recover more quickly from surgery, especially in the case of total joint replacement, but the same principles apply to other surgeries as well. For example, if your shoulder range of motion is significantly limited, many surgeons will not fix your rotator cuff tear until your range of motion has improved. Also, many times in the case of knee replacement surgery, increasing the strength of the muscles around your knee prior to surgery can get you on the move much sooner and without a cane or walker after your knee replacement.
